Bridging the Digital Divide
As America evolves into a truly digital nation, we want to help ensure that all citizens of all backgrounds can use broadband to achieve their full potential. Helping more people to learn the benefits of broadband (“digital literacy”), and then to use it (“broadband adoption”), will make our communities and our nation stronger.
Our national partnerships frequently include basic literacy components, as the good-old-fashioned-ABCs are necessary building blocks to digital literacy. We support hundreds of basic reading programs through schools, libraries and community centers. And quietly reading together is one of the many activities between “Bigs” and “Littles” in the Beyond School Walls program with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Comcast supports digital literacy through technology labs, online job-search training, online safety and other programs. Through our newest national partnership with One Economy, the Comcast Digital Connectors program helps train teens and young adults to use broadband and digital tools and to prepare for potential careers in digital media. In turn, they use their new-found knowledge to help spread digital literacy throughout their neighborhoods.
Digital literacy powers the dreams of opportunity, and is an essential step on the pathway to success in 21st century America.
